Worshiping the ministry

Preaching to me is real. It should be a snapshot of my affections and thoughts responding to the truth of the Gospel. When it’s not, you can tell – it sucks. For those who were at crossbridge last week know that I preached about worship from that conversation that Jesus had with a Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:1-21).

One of the things that I shared on Sunday (that’s is still haunting me today) is that like that women I worship idols. In her case men. In my case the ministry (among other things, of course) . The reason for it basically, is because a successful ministry speaks more about myself than anything else. I didn’t mention but its kind of funny that what led Jesus to meet with that woman was this bad experience he had in Judea, where people were doing the same type thing I love to do. They were comparing Jesus’ numbers with John’s numbers.

In light of that, I shared with our staff yesterday that we do need to be diligent in our work. But, remind ourselves that everything that we do is not about the “work” but, the Lord of “the work”.
